Year 11 Boys: Sirius Academy 22 Malet Lambert 14

[11 Oct 2017]

The Year 11 Boys carried on their winning streak as they beat Malet Lambert 22 – 14 in a very close game of rugby. This will now see this talented set of boys progress through to the Yorkshire stages.

The game started evenly matched, but it was Malet who had more of the ball in good areas. The Sirius defence stood strong for a few sets of six and managed to keep the Malet side from going over in the early exchanges. Sirius struggled to keep the ball and gave it away in bad areas, but once they started to control the ball better they had a lot more success. In their first completed set a pinpoint kick from Brandon Sargesson saw Taylor Eastood take the ball on the full and side step the fullback to go over for the first try of the game, Ben Canvass converted 6- 0. Sirius went over shortly after to extend the lead, this time it was a well worked move near the line as Joe Aitcheson crashed over showing real strength 12 – 0. Halftime.

Sirius didn’t start the second half well and once again made error after error and found themselves defending for long periods of time. Malet capitalised on this and went over for two quick tries that they could not convert to make it 12 – 8. The next score was important and it was the impressive Kai Green that went over after hitting a great line. 16 – 8. But Malet would not give up and got another try back for a very nervous ending with five minutes remaining and the scoreline at 16 – 14 in favour of Sirius. Great defence from the home side kept Malet from going over again and when Joe Kennedy took a high ball and made great yards forward the attack pushed on the back of this and got their rewards as good hands down the line found Taylor Eastwood who went over on the last play of the game to seal the victory for Sirius 22 – 14, which confirms that we have a place in the Yorkshire stages.

Please congratulate the boys on their continued success.
