Year 11 Girls RL Team ease through to the Yorkshire Qualifiers
The talented Year 11 Girls Rugby League team showed their quality in the Hull Schools Competition by easing their way through the Yorkshire Qualifiers by topping the group. The new look Year 11 team consisted of two new players from last year (Chloe Faulder and Ameera Jessop) and a number of Year 10 girls who were more than able to take the step up in age group.
On a very cold night at the KC Lighstream Stadium the girls deserve a lot of praise of their outstanding team performance.
Sirius Academy West 8 Malet Lambert 0
Malet Lambert were tough opponents last year and had some big strong girls in their team, but the Sirius West side were really up for this one and did not take a backwards step in defence. On the attack Sirius were unstoppable with Molly Bigby opening up the scoring, Chloe Dunn showed how much she had improved over the last few months with an outstanding individual try before Molly Bigby got her second before the halftime break. From the restart Amelia Longden broke through the defensive line and passed to the supporting Mia Duke for a great try, Cameron Shakespear showed strength and speed to make it five tries before Molly Bigby, Mia Duke and Emily Andrew all crossed over in a convincing 8 – 0 victory.
Sirius Academy West 11 Sirius Academy North 1
With Sirius North having three key players missing it was always going to be an uphill battle for them in the Sirius derby match as the West side ran in eleven tries. But Sirius North kept battling away and managed to get a try back of their own showing good attitude and determination. The Sirius West tries came from Cameron Shakespear, Molly Bigby (2), Mia Duke, Danny Waters (2), Emily Andrew, Ameera Jessop (2), Chloe Dunn and Amy Purdon.
Sirius Academy West 6 Archbishop Sentamu 1
Sirius Academy dominated this game from the off, and once again it was Molly Bigby who opened the scoring showing great vision to go through the gap. Captain Mia Duke, who had been incredible in attack and defence all tournament went over for well deserved try after a smart scoot from acting half back. Molly Bigby went over for two more tries in quick succession as the Sirius West side started to really turn on the style with drop offs and runarounds to create space and go over for some well worked tries. Mia Duke got another try after combining well with Danny Waters. But Archbishop Sentamu would not give in and went over form close range. Amelia Longden rounded off the scoring to make it 6 – 1 to Sirius West.
Please congratulate the girls on their continued success in rugby league and once again qualifying for the Yorkshire Competition which will be in January:-
Mia Duke (capt), Amelia Longden, Molly Bigby, Chloe Faulder, Ameera Jessop, Emily Andrew, Cameron Shakespear, Danny Waters, Lauren Sutton, Amy Purdon and Chloe Dunn (player of the tournament).
