Year 11 Rugby team through to Hull Cup Final again!
A much changed Year 11 Rugby League team held the teams excellent record in the Hull Schools Cup, a competition they have won for the last 3 years, after they produced a strong performance to defeat Wolfreton High 42-0 on Wednesday evening. The team now look to finish their Sirius careers on a high in their last ever match, against St Marys College at Hull YPI on Wednesday 29th April.
The team with many familiar faces missing from recent successes, started strongly with Matthew “Pablo” Burgess and Charlie Jackson leading the way forward, with the only Year 10 student, Josh Lomax showing up well at hooker. Wider out, James Ducker, Haydn Mortimer and Jon Mills were equally as strong with the influential Loch Fitzgerald controlling the game with great skill, supported by Connah Oliver. Brad McLoughlin was 1st over stepping through from 50 metres out and sprinting away with Mills goaling. Fitzgerald split the defence and sent captain Tom Greenham over next before Fitzgerald then chipped over and regathered before running the final 50 metres for his try. On the stroke of half-time, Callum Magee secured the win, showing outstanding speed and strength and break from 80 metres out and sprint the length of the pitch for a half-time lead of 24-0.
The 2nd half saw Matty Taylor, Adam Smith, Ewan Malton and Brandon Butcher come more into the game, making good yards forward. Mortimer was excellent defensively, with Jorda Wardell unlucky not to cross, having the ball knocked out over the line. McLoughlin started the scoring with a smart try before Fitzgerald crossed with Greenham and Burgess goaling before McLoughlin finished the match off with a full length effort for his hat-trick and Mills goaled for the 42-0 win.
Special thanks to Rach Gay for her support with the team and to Martin Smith, Cosi Basile, Alan Crowley, Jack Hostead and Miss Brennan for their support. Also thanks to 6th Former Harry Brigham for his help preparing for the match.
Please congratulate the boys on their success, attitude and behaviour:
