Year 7 boys crowned Hull Schools 5 a-side champions!
The Sirius Academy Year 7 boys team went through the Hull Schools 5 a-side championships undefeated to successfully win the Hull championships and qualify to represent Hull in the Regional competition. The 7 boys who represented the Academy, all played their part in 5 excellent victories and completely deserved the title.
The team were drawn in a group to face Archbishop Sentamu, Boulevard Academy and Kelvin Hall, which we had to top if we were to stand a chance of winning the competition. Kelvin Hall were 1st up and goals from Alfie Sumpton, Harry Fenton and Tyler Leighton saw Sirius to a tight 3-2 win. The 2nd match saw Archbishop Sentamu as the opponents and Sirius settled into the game, understanding more how to play and comfortably ran out 3-1 winners with goals from Sumpton (2) and Fenton. Sirius were qualification already secure to the Finals then faced Boulevard and goals from Fenton (3) and Sumpton (2) saw Sirius run out 5-2 winners.
The Finals saw the three group leaders face off, with Malet Lambert and Winifrd Holtby the opposition. First up were Malet in what was the game of the tournemount between two excellent sides, with George Petty in goal making three outstanding saves to keep Malet out. Jack Cutler was influential throughout with Jack Eland and Josh Smith solid at the back. It was a last minute Fenton strike that gave Sirius a 1-0 win. Sirius went into the last match knowing a draw would see them crowned champions after Malet had beaten Winifred Holtby, however goals from Fenton and Sumpton led Sirius to a 2-1 win and the championship.
Special thanks to Martin Smith for his help coaching the team, Cosi Basile for driving and supporting the boys and Alex Sherwood for organising and running the event.
Please congratulate the following boys on their success, attitude and behaviour:
George Petty, Josh Smith, Jack Eland, Harry Fenton, Tyler Leighton, Alfie Sumpton, Jack Cutler.
