Year 7 boys football still undefeated
South Hunsley 0 Sirius 0
On Thursday the 12 January the boys Year 7 football team travelled to South Hunsley for a “friendly”.
In a very hard fought, physical game Sirius earned a well-deserved draw and probably should have won the game.
South Hunsley had won their own league and so presented a tough test for Sirius. Sirius started brightly with Charlie Morriss and Martin Jude playing some clever one touch football upfront. Harry Storr on the right hand side of a 5 man midfield had his hands full with a strong South Hunsley left. Stephen Pougher, Josh Jarvis and Jack Best battled hard in midfield to keep Sirius on top. Jack Best (on his way back from injury) produced some very cultured moments with his right front which allowed Nathan Voakes to use the space available on our left and it was one such pass from Jack which give Sirius their first scoring chance. Jack played the ball inside the South Hunsley right back and Nathan Voakes ran onto it. He pulled the ball back to the edge of the area to Josh Jarvis who laid it off to Martin Jude, Martin beat his man but just as he was about to shoot the ball bobbled and he shot well over the bar.
At the other end Sirius looked strong with Alex Appleby, Joe Boxall and Callum Baker working well as a back three. Kane Tock made his debut in goal and produced two excellent saves in the first half to keep the score at 0-0. About half way through the first half Joe Boxall made an excellent tackle to stop a break through on goal but sadly injured himself in doing so, as a result he was replaced by Adam Kelsey making his debut in defence and who produced an excellent display of touch and bravery.
Indeed it was Adam who started the move of the first half laying the ball of to Josh Jarvis inside or half. Josh powered forward passing to the ever willing Charlie Morriss and from the half way line to the edge of South Hunsley area they played one touch one-two football. Charlie then whipped the ball into the area sadly for it to elude Martin Jude and Nathan Voakes who had ran the length of the field to make it.
The second half saw the introduction of Jak Langley, Alfie Pougher, Harry Knight and Dominic Litwinski and the game shifted in Sirius favour with the pace of Harry, Alfie and Dominic making inroads into the South Hunsley back line. Alfie hit a screaming shot from a corner which went just over. Sadly Sirius could not get the clear cut chance their play deserved until near the very end when Charlie Morriss was adjudged off-side as he laid the ball to Harry Knight to slot home.
At the back South Hunsley created very little due to the impressive defensive displays of Callum Baker and Alex Appleby. In fact at the end of the match their coach past comment on both Callum and Alex and how impressed he was with their attitude, talent and the fact that they would always “put their bodies on the line for the team”.
Well done to all the boys
