Year 7 Boys overshadow Hull Tigers 1/4 final success!
Year 7 boys are through to the Semi Final with what turned out to be a comfortable win over Kingswood Academy! If only they had a semi-final in Wembley too..
Likewise with the Tigers, the team were missing some key starting players for this cup tie, along with Manager Mr Rouse (Who’s position was filled successfully by popular choice Mr smith). But the players who stepped up to the plate more than made a claim for a starting position in the upcoming semi-final!
A late Kick-off due to the travel of the away team did not throw the Sirius players who were up for the tie from the start. Some excellent running by the attacking players, especially the magnificent trio of Jay Mainprize, Jack Tanser and Tom Stabler proving too much for Kingswood and had set off with desire to hassle the towering defence. After some fantastic opening attacking play, Sirus broke the deadlock with a pinpoint corner by Jack which found Jay unmarked in the box to calmly slot the ball away with a half volley. This goal raised the confidence of the team coming off some bad results and led to the second goal with a Vladimirs Aleksejevs- Nikolajevs shot taking a wicked deflection of a Kingswood Academy defender leaving the keeper with no chance! Tom Rounded up the half with a 3rd Sirius goal with some fantastic build up play with playmaker Jack finding Jay who played a magnificent pass to Tom who himself found the bottom right corner with a cool finish. However, all of these chances would have been for nothing if it had not been for the ever improving Joseph ‘cat’ Hill in goal making some fantastic saves and collecting anything that came into his box by showing no fear!
Sirius came out of the second half facing some pressure from the Kingswood attack who made plenty of rapid breaks through the new set out Sirius defence and found themselves back in the game at 3-1. Credit goes out to the 4 boys in the back, especially Harry Pougher, who pushed a high defence line to support their teammates with effect. Sirius players were resilient and did not let their heads drop, like in the past, and came back even stronger. Some second half changes seeing Luke Riley and Tom Scarr come onto the pitch led to waves of attacks from the Surius boys who replied with a flurry of goals. The T.J strike partnership was on top form with Jay once again finding Tom Stabler who found the back of the net for the second time in the game…..and not for the last! Jay breaking through the defence earned himself a deserved second goal not long after, one of which will increase the confidence of the striker who could have had a hat trick himself if not for some great goalkeeping.
The rampant Sirius team increased their lead with Tom rounding off his hat trick with some great build up play by Ethan and Jack on the right to earn the match ball… if not for it being taken off him to go back in the ball bag at the end. Subs Tom Scarr and Bayer Baper completed the goal rush with a fine goal on the left hand side by Tom and Bayer showing pace to latch onto the end of the pass to finish the game 8-1!
Players were rightly so delighted with their massive ¼ final win and left them questioning if Mr Rouse’s absence could be a good omen! Man of the match and celebratory bottle of water goes to Jay for his 2 goal contribution and hat trick of assists showing great teamwork throughout
Massive thanks to Mr Smith for helping out and please congratulate the following boys:
Joseph Hill, Ethan Kendall, Steven Willits, Harry Pougher, Baillie Borman, Jayden Robson, Jack Tanser, Tom Stabler, Vladimirs Aleksejevs- Nikolajevs, Bayar Baper, Jay Mainprize, Tom Scarr and Luke Riley
