[10 Mar 2011]

The Year 7 Boys battled in the cold conditions against a committed Andrew Marvell team, before eventually coming through with a win which sees the boys reach the Quarter-Finals of the Hull Schools Cup. Their opponents in this match will be Sydney Smith school.

An open start to the game saw Sirius create chances however they could not quite find the finishing shot. Led in defence by the strong partnership of Callum Magee and Chris Brown, Sirius kept their visitors down to long-range efforts. A superb pass from captain Luke Salas created the space for Lukas Mikoliunas to fire Sirius ahead 1-0. The same combination again split the Marvell defence open with Mikoliunas scoring his second. Despite more chance been created Sirius could not add to their tally until just before half-time when Kenan Stephensons long-range shot found the bottom corner for a 3-0 half-time lead.

The second half began with Sirius on the attack, led by Joseph Wood and Ewan Malton, more chances were created. Malton dribbled in from the left and fired Sirius’s fourth goal, quickly followed by Salas taking the ball through the defence and putting Sirius 5-0 up. However full credit to Marvell who pulled back 4 quick goals to take the match into a tense finish, however Wood settled the Sirius nerves with a fine finish to give Sirius a deserved 6-4 victory.
