Year 7 Boys Rugby League – St Marys 10 Sirius Academy West 40

[28 Sep 2016]

The Year 7 Boys made it two wins from two games with a convincing victory over St Marys.

The game started well for Sirius Academy as they kept the ball well for their first set of 6 and forced a drop out on the last tackle. In the repeat set two good drives from Connor Arnold and Ryan Platten got us near the tryline and Sam Hassard scooted over from close range, Lennie Ellis converted. Shortly after it was Bailey Jennison who showed real pace and strength as he went over for a long range try, converted by Sam Hassard. St Marys got more into the game as it went on and got near the Sirius tryline on a couple of occasions, but the defence stood strong with Macauley Medlam and Malachi Tony working overtime in defence. Great link up play from the half backs saw Will Furmage draw and pass to Lennie Ellis who stepped his way through to the tryline, converted by Macauley Medlam. Another try was scored shortly after, again a great individual try by Bailey Jennison who was proving too fast for the St Marys team, converted by Sam Hassard. The scoreline was 24 – 0 to Sirius at the halftime break.

The second half started the same, with Sirius on the attack, a well worked move down the right saw good hands for Malachi Tony to crash his way over the tryline showing real strength in the corner. Credit to St Marys, they kept working hard and got their rewards with a try of their own. Sirius responded well and quick thinking from Sam Hassard saw him dummy his was over from the acting half back position. With only five minutes remaining, good yards from Fletcher Elliot got Sirius in a good position and again great link up play ended in Lennie Ellis going over for his second. Sirius switched off in the final stages of the game and did not get off their line together, leaving space for the St Marys players to go through to make the scoreline at the final whistle St Marys 10 Sirius Academy West 40.

Next up for this talented Year 7 Rugby team is Hessle High on Monday at home.
