Year 7 Boys Rugby: Longcroft 6 Sirius Academy West 22
Sirius Academy West Year 7 Boys rugby team managed to secure another victory in the Yorkshire Qualifiers by beating Longcroft 22 points to 6. The game started well for Sirius as they forced a knock on by the Longcroft side in their first set of six after some eager defence. Sirius capitlised on the good field position and sent away Jack Nilsson down the left hand side to make it 4 – 0. It wasn’t long before Sirius doubled their lead, some good work from Keiran Redfern and Bradley Andrew found Jack Nilsson down the left hand side again to go over. Bradley Andrew converted to make it 10 – 0 after only six minutes. Credit to Longcroft, they picked up their game and Sirius had to defend as a team to keep them out with Oliver Shawcross, Harry Fletcher and Ben Grant leading the way with some big hits. Just before the halftime break, some great footwork from winger Kieran Clemitshaw saw him jinx his way through the Longcroft defence to make the halftime score 14 – 0.
Just into the second half, captain Bradley Andrew scooted over from close range to extend the lead to 18 – 0. But Longcroft worked hard to get a try back of their own and when they exploited a gap out wide from a scrum there was no stopping their speedy winger. 18 – 6. But it was Sirius who had the final word after Ryan Bennett showed real strength to get the ball down with three Longcroft players trying to stop him. The scoreline ended at 22 – 6 with another convincing win for the talented Year 7 Boys rugby team. Next up for them is Kelvin Hall next Monday, and if they win this one then they are guaranteed a place in the Yorkshire stages.
