Year 7 Boys Rugby: Outwood Academy Freeston 10 Sirius Academy West 34

[15 Nov 2018]

The Sirius Academy West Year 7 Boys played in their first ever Yorkshire League match and came out worthy winners by beating Outwood Academy Freeston 34 – 10. The game started well for Sirius, as a smart kick off by Jarrod Jones was fielded by Ben Grant who made 20 yards forward. From the resulting set of six in attack some great thinking by acting half back Harry Fletcher saw the overlap out on the left, played that way to Jarrod Jones who drew the player in to pass to winger Mason Hawley who jinxed his way through the covering defence to score in the corner. It wasn’t long before Sirius doubled their lead, this time it was good hands down the right as Ben Grant went over 0 – 8 to Sirius. The defence was put to the test and stood strong with Kieran Clemitshaw, Remy Wilde and Oliver Shallcross making some good tackles. Jack Nilsson was next to go over with a powerful run down the middle to go over. Jack Nilsson doubled his try tally by going over again shortly after as he powered his way over the line, Harry Fletcher converted to make it 22 – 0. The best team try of the game came just before the halftime break when Ralph Horton superbly executed his two v one and sent over Ben Grant for his second try, Harry Fletcher converted again to make the halftime score 28 – 0.

Sirius made a couple of mistakes early on in the second half and Outwood capitalised on this by going over for their first try of the game. But Sirius responded well as Mason Hawley went over in the corner showing real strength to get the ball down after great runs forward by Kai Mula and Kian Goodhand to get Sirius into some good field position.  Outwood went over again after a couple more errors by the Sirius side as they started to tire. But Sirius had the last word when the impressive Jack Nilsson went the full length of the pitch to score his hat-trick. Captain Bradley Andrew converted to make the final score 34 – 10 in an impressive first Yorkshire game for the talented Year 7 Boys rugby team. Their next Yorkshire league match is Friday 23rd November, when they travel to Corpus Christie, Leeds.
