Year 7 Boys Rugby: Sirius Academy West 30 Kelvin Hall 28
The Year 7 boys won their second consecutive game in the West Hull Schools Competition. After beating a strong Longcroft side last week this test was even tougher as Kelvin had some very good players. Kelvin found themselves taking control of the game in the early stages as Sirius West struggled to complete their sets, in which Kelvin capitilised on this, with the scoreline at halftime 18 – 12 in favour of Kelvin. Another error in the first minute of the second half from Sirius gifted Kelvin with another try to make the score 22 – 12. But credit to the Sirius side, they did not throw the towel in and started to play smarter rugby, looking after the ball better. The dangerous Daire Kemp was causing the Kelvin defence all sorts of problems and went over to make the score 22 – 18, but Kelvin replied immediately and converted to make it 28 – 16 with only 8 minutes remaining. The Sirius side stepped it up a gear in attack and the forwards ran the ball in well making good yards from Kai Jenman and Will Palmer. A well worked try from Sirius gave them some hope of winning the game with only minutes remaining and 28 – 24. Receiving the ball from kick off they worked hard to get downfield and when good hands down the line saw them go in at the corner it was all on the final kick as the scores were level, up stepped Daire Kemp to slot over with a superb conversion and win the game for the home side.
Please congratulate the boys on their determination and their never give up attitude!
