Year 7 excellent in Final win

[14 May 2013]

The Sirius Academy Year 7 Rugby team produced a clinical 1st half display to clinch the Hull and East Yorkshire Rugby League Cup with victory over rivals St Marys College at KC Stadium. All 16 players contributed towards what was the teams 1st trophy as a Sirius team, and they now look forward to future years and the County / National competitions.

A strong start saw Sirius use the ball wisely, refusing to give up possession and forcing Marys to defend for long spells. Forwards Declan Jackson and Jack Arnett started strongly, making strong yards forward. Jack Scottow was 1st over after good hands from Connor Matthews. Captain Mikey Lewis was next over showing great strength to push through four defenders, before another Lewis solo effort put Sirius 14-0 up after Scottow had kicked the conversion. Refusing to sit back Tyler Hackett, Dylan Hepworth and Recce Gooch kept pushing forward and in defence the outstanding Luke Moss made several crucial one on one tackles against the strong running Marys forwards. Scottow was next over wide out finishing well before Moss grabbed an excellent solo score, dummying his way over. On the stroke of half time Jackson scored a deserved try with Lewis goaling for a 26-0 half-time lead.

Credit to Marys who battled back in the 2nd half with two quick tries. Harrison Longden and Jackson worked hard to get Sirius back on top with smart play from Kieran Bartlett around the play the ball keeping Sirius going forward. Out wide Jordan Wornor, Joseph Sedman and Callum Riley defended strongly with Lewis and Matthews using the ball well. Substitutes Lewis Harold and Liam Holdstock added fresh legs which kept Sirius going forward. Marys got over again for a 26-16 score-line however fittingly it was Scottow who grabbed his hat-trick collecting a kick and sprinting 60 metres for an excellent try and to give Sirius their 30-16 victory.

Several strong performances were produced with Luke Moss outstanding at full-back however it was Jack Arnett who collected the Cup man of the match award.

Please congratulate the following boys on their success, attitude and behaviour:

Luke Moss, Joseph Sedman, Jack Scottow, Jordan Wornor, Callum Riley, Mikey Lewis, Connor Matthews, Declan Jackson, Kieran Bartlett, Jack Arnett, Dylan Hepworth, Tyler Hackett, Reece Gooch, Harrison Longden, Liam Holdstock, Lewis Harold.
