Year 7 Football boys continue excellent season to reach 2nd Final!
The Sirius Academy Year 7 Football boys continued their outstanding 1st season as they made it through to their 2nd Schools Cup Final after an impressive 6-1 win over South Hunsley saw them reach the Humberside Schools Cup Final. The boys now look forward to the Humberside and Hull Schools Cup Finals as they look to add to their Hull Schools 5 a side championship victory whilst knowing two further victories in the Hull Schools League will secure that Championship. The team will face Wolfreton on Thursday at St Marys College in the Humberside Final, 4pm KO.
The game started off in great fashion for Sirius as Alfie Sumpton pounced twice in the first six minutes to put the boys 2-0 up with two poacher-like finishes. Hunsley as expected began to grow into the game as they settled down, with Tom Overton, Kieran Welburn and Lewis Sutton doing an excellent job in dealing with the strong attacking threats. In mid-field Harry Wallis and Harry Fenton again showed their class with several telling contributions each, with Jack Cutler looking ever dangerous on the left side. George Petty was called into action to pull off an excellent save however he couldn’t do anything to prevent Hunsley pulling a goal back with a smart finish for 2-1. On the stroke of half-time a Wallis pass sent Sumpton through who was felled by the keeper. Up stepped Sumpton to calmly stroke the ball home for his hat-trick and 19th goal of the season for a 3-1 half-time lead.
Sirius came out of the 2nd half with a renewed enthusiasm and dominated from start to finish. Mason Palmer up top was alert to every chance with a Fenton through ball playing Palmer through whose 1st touch and calm finish saw Sirius 4-1 up. Carrington Walker followed up his recent impressive shows with another energetic performance as he worked well to create openings. Fenton hit a spectacular 25 yard shot which beat the keeper and rebounded off the post with Wallis alert to put the ball home for 5-1. It was the outstanding Wallis who finished the scoring off, receiving a good pass from Fenton to beat the keeper with a low shot for a 6-1 victory.
Special thanks to Martin Smith for assisting with coaching the team and to Jon White, Cosi Basile, John Sherwood, Max Clark and David Gordon for their support.
Please congratulate the following boys on another excellent win and their attitude, behaviour and success:
