Year 7 Football boys into County Cup Semi-Finals!

[15 Apr 2016]

The Sirius Academy Year 7 Football team moved safely into the County Cup Semi-Finals after a comprehensive victory over Longcroft (East Riding). The team continue their quest to sweep all before them in their 1st season at the Academy as they face South Hunsley (East Riding) in the County Cup Semi-Final whilst also awaiting to find out who their opposition will be in the up-coming Hull Schools Cup Final. The boys are also in the hunt to add the Hull Schools League to the Hull Schools 5 a-side competition that they have already won, in what would be a tremendous 1st season!

Sirius started the match with Carrington Walker and Harry Wallis dominating midfield against the bigger Longcroft lads. At the back Tom Overton marshalled the back three to great effect with Kieran Welburn and Josh Smith looking composed dealing with the long-ball forward. Mason Palmer up-front was making countless dangerous runs through with the Longcroft keeper making two excellent saves after good wrk wide-out from Danny Chadwick and Alfie Sumpton. Sirius broke the deadlock when Wallis squared the ball for Jack Cutler who poked the ball past the keeper for 1-0. George Petty at the back looked assured as always reading the balls through and also kicking well to set up attacks. Palmer grabbed the next three goals, firstly volleying home a Sumpton lay-back before racing through and sliding the ball home with Walker supplying the final pass for Palmer to cleverly beat the keeper at his near post for his hat-trick and a 4-0 lead. Wallis who had controlled the game from the start, deservedly grabbed the fifth before half-time, beating a defender before sending the keeper the wrong way with a smart finish.

Lewis Sutton and Renaldas Sokolovas  entered at half-time to continue the Sirius play with Finlay Bowler taking over in goal to make two smart saves to keep the opposition scoreless. Sumpton continued his excellent work-rate with Wallis and Cutler causing endless problems. Palmer up-front created the next for Cutler who finished calmly from a Palmer set-back before Cutler rounded up the scoring with his hat-trick goal, firing in from 20 yards to give Sirius their place in the last 4.

Again special thanks to Martin Smith for helping to coach the team as he has done all year and also to Cosi Basile for supporting the boys during the match.

Please congratulate the following boys on their continued success, attitude and behaviour:
