Year 7 Football: Match Reports

[12 Oct 2014]

The Sirius Academy Year 7 Football team experienced the highs and lows of playing competitive Football during a challenging week. The team was under Interim Management while Mr Gordon recovers from his knee operation, we wish him a speedy recovery!
A very busy schedule saw the team play two games in two days on Wednesday and Thursday, unheard of in this modern football era. The first of the two fixtures saw the team suffer their first defeat of the season at home against a clinical Malet Lambert side in the Hull Schools League. Spirits were low in the dressing room after the match but after some encouraging words from Elliot Pashley, Lewis Bibby and Charlie Shooter, it was clear the team couldn’t wait for the next game to put things right. Fortunately for the team, that opportunity came in the National Cup away against Doncaster’s Balby Carr yesterday evening.
The boys we’re in good spirits traveling down to the match, despite the previous defeat, which was great to see. The game started with Sirius battling against the strong South Yorkshire wind and the team did terrific to soak up the early pressure with a solid defence and a commanding display from Goalkeeper Lewis Wilson. The boys quickly adapted to a more counter attacking style of football, which resulted in two goals from Omali Mukulenge on the break. The pace, precision and penetration of our attacking play was fantastic to watch. This settled any pre-match nerves and the team grew in confidence as the game went on. Goals from Charlie Shooter, Lewis Bibby and Leon Dalee gave Sirius a comfortable 5-2 lead going in at half-time.
The boys adjusted to a more patient approach after the break. Bibby, Emils Kokorevics and Ali Hussein all looked comfortable and clam on the ball. The impressive attacking display from midfielder Harry Blackham continued, creating chance after chance and getting on the score sheet. This was complemented by Leon Dalee’s strong tackling in the defensive midfield role. Substitutes Jack Brown, Leon Stewart, Joe Barrat and Tom Penrose all made an immediate impact with Brown curling a long range effort past the opposition keeper. However, the pick of the goals came from Elliot Pashley who fired a free-kick straight into the top corner from 20 yards out!
The match finished 9-3 to Sirius Academy and now the team will be entered into the next round of the National Cup on Monday. Please congratulate all the boys for showing terrific spirit and determination over the two fixtures.
