Year 7 Football: Sirius Academy 6 – Winifred Holtby 4

[29 Sep 2014]

The Sirius Academy Year 7 Football team continued their positive start to the season last night, finishing on the correct side of the score line in another goal bonanza. Victory over Hessle now sees the Y7s move into the next round of the National Cup to play against Doncaster’s Balby Carr.

With the majority of the players now familiar with each other after last week’s success, and aided by the support of the wind, Sirius dominated most of the first half and led through goals from Omali Mukulenge and Leon Stewart. Hessle threatened on occasion from the quick feet and pace of their diminutive striker. It was on one of these occasions in the final moments of the half that Hessle scored for 2-1.

The second half promised to be a tighter affair with the strong wind now blowing into the face of Sirius’ attack. However, Sirius remained strong, with Elliot Pashley, Harry Blackham and Leon Dalee impressing in midfield. Lewis Wilson continued his excellent form in goal, despite playing only his second ever game, and was quick to thwart any attacks. This solid platform allowed Sirius to cruise into a 6-2 lead with further goals from Pashley, Charlie Shooter and another two from Mukulenge (followed by his notorious double flip somersault) sandwiching a Hessle reply.

With only 10mins remaining it looked like Sirius would coast to victory but a lack of concentration and a host of changes, affected the momentum of the performance, and Hessle hit back with another two goals for 6-4.

Please congratulate all the boys that competed last night. Practice is still available for all Y7 students on a Wednesday at 3.05pm.
