Year 7 Football team win 1st game for the Academy!
The Sirius Academy Year 7 Football team showed plenty of early promise as they won their 1st ever competitive match for the Academy with a 2-0 victory over Sir John Nelthorpe School (Brigg) in the National Cup 1st Round. The team dominated the game from the start and should have scored more goals however the signs are promising for a good season.
Sirius started on the front foot with Tyler Pyzer, Harry Wallis and Jack Cutler showing good touches early on. Up-front Harry Fenton was proving a menace for the opposing back four with constant movement and threatening shots. The Sirius performance was built on a solid defence with captain Tom Overton marshalling the back four with great composure, with Jack Eland, Josh Smith and Daniel Hird looking calm with every situation. Sirius had plenty of chances with Pyzer going close twice and Wallis forcing a good stop from the keeper. Tyler Leighton was introduced to the game with immediate effect with Cutler moving onto his favoured left-side. Leighton created the 1st goal as he fed Fenton who blasted the ball in off the bar for 1-0 at half-time.
The 2nd half saw the introduction of Finlay Bowler in goal with Lewis Martin making way, with both keepers doing everything asked of them. Overton began to come forward with the ball more, creating space for Wallis, Cutler and Fenton in-front. Alfie Sumpton was introduced up-front with Fenton dropping deeper with this rewarded as Fenton’s shot was parried by the keeper with Sumpton following up to put the ball away for 2-0. Jack Mortimer entered the game at the back to carry on the strong defence which never looked like been broken. The game ended with Sirius into Round 2 to face William Parr School from Lincoln.
