YEAR 7 GIRLS AND BOYS BOTH HULL SCHOOLS CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM CHAMPIONS!
It has taken an eternity for the Hull Schools Cross-Country Championships to come through, but now they have it is great news and worth having waited!
Sirius Academy are Hull City Team Champions for both Year 7 Girls and Year 7 Boys- both year groups taking both ‘Minor Events’. This was closely followed by the Year 8/9 Boys finishing second overall in the ‘Junior Event’. An outstanding achievement.
Great team news and some outstanding individual results on a wet, dreary and miserable day which left little to motivating the body or the mind. However, our students showed their character ,determination and resolve in weathering the storm and fighting on to success!
Notable individual performances saw Lauren Mclean finish a close second overall in the Year 7 Girls Junior Event- just robbed of being champion! Lauren was closely followed by Molly Simpson(5); Jess Toner(8); Jess Taylor (15); Ellie Robertson(25) and Isabelle Taylor(31).
The Year 7 Boys Junior Event saw the same scenario with Jack Cutler(5); Alfie Sumpton(6); Thomas Overton(8); Harry Fenton (10); Daniel Chadwick(21) and Tyler Leigton(22).
The Year 8/9 Boys Junior Event saw the team finish a very respectable second with Charlie Hadfield(4); Jack Tanser(5); Harry Kynman(24); and Bayer Baper(25).
Holly Dodsworth was a brilliant 3rd in the Year 8/9 Girls Junior Event and Connor Matthews a very creditable eleventh in the Senior Boys Event. Connor being in Year 10 a year younger than most of his opponents.
Overall Sirius Academy have eighteen students who have qualified to represent Hull In the County Championships in February of the new year.
The last recognition and mention goes not only to all of our runners for having the courage to take part but for one individual. I have stated before it is not only the courage to take part in such an event, win or lose, but be determined to achieve your best and turn up!. This was highlighted by Abigail Hattersley who when she had slogged through four miles of a gruelling circuit showed the elation a winner, anyone would have been proud of her when she stated that she was so happy that she had not stopped once in completing the course- though she had finished last! What an achievement and it is competitors such as Abigail that need to be recognised for her outstanding effort on the day, the smile of contentment made her a winner! Abigail had succeeded in achieving her target and that is all that matters! She did not give up when others had stopped!
