Year 7 Girls First Rugby League Tournament
The year 7 Girls played in their first rugby match/tournament and came away with a win, a draw and two defeats at Castleford Panthers RLFC.
Sirius 1 Minsthorpe
Sirius started this game well with Maja Bajek making good yards on her first run, setting up Beth Dixon to go over for the first try of the game. The Sirius defence was put to the test after making some errors in attack and giving the ball away in their own half. The defence failed to move off their line quickly as Minsthorpe capitalised on the Sirius errors.
Sirius 5 De Lacy 0
In the two game break the Sirius team worked on a few things they needed to improve on, and they came out in this second game with their attack and defence much better. Beth Dixon was too strong for the De Lacy team and went over for three tries. Maja Bajek went over for one and the try of the match came from Levis Lewis in the acting half back position, who noticed the De Lacy defence was all at sea and raced half the pitch to score in the corner.
Sirius 1 Ossett 1
Sirius came into this game with lots of confidence and started the game with a good long distance try from captain Beth Dixon. Both defences were really good, getting numbers in the tackle and moving up quickly. Some great marker play from Tegan Lawler made sure that Ossetts chances were limited. Caitlin Faulder and Kaitlen Jasper were running the ball in well. In the dying seconds Ossett equalised, as the referee failed to see the knock on over the line, but this was by far the girls best performance of the tournament against a strong Ossett team
Sirius 0 Outwood Grange 2
Sirius started to tire in their last game and pick up a few niggling injuries. There were many errors from the Sirius team as they lost the ball four times on the first tackle. They learnt their lesson as they were constantly defending, and something had to give as the fast players out wide for Outwood raced over for two tries in quick succession.
The girls can be very proud of their performance today, there is a lot to work on but they certainly have the potential to go further and improve. Next up for the year 7 Girls is the Yorkshire RL competition at the beginning of next term.
Please congratulate the squad on their performance and behaviour:-
