YEAR 7 GIRLS LOSE IN BRAVE PERFORMANCE

[11 Apr 2014]

The Sirius girl’s football team produced a brave and battling performance but eventually lost 14-0 against an experienced South Hunsley side.

The match begun with the Sirius defence putting good pressure and strong tackles in to deny the South Hunsley girls chances. However, South Hunsley found a way through and opened the scoring with a good finish. The goal seemed to spur them on, and two more goals followed in quick succession to make the score 3-0.

Good close range saves from Alisha Pearson stopped the score escalating, but a low finish from the edge of the box and a shot which just dropped over the line increased the score. Another fantastic save from the Sirius keeper couldn’t prevent South Hunsley taking a bigger lead into half time, with two more goals meaning the score was 7-0 at the interval.

Sirius kept on battling after the restart as a couple of crucial blocks on the line thwarted South Hunsley’s attempts to increase their lead, and 3 quick-fire goals still couldn’t break the team’s spirit. A change at half time saw a switch in goal, and the Sirius keeper was unlucky as she saw a shot just creep into the net to make the score 11-0.

Another good save unluckily fell straight to an opponent to tap in, with two more goals rounding the score off. Although the 14-0 score line suggests otherwise, the girls put in a performance to be proud of after a hardworking and courageous effort.

Team: Alisha Pearson, Lauren Sutton, Chelsea Wood, Holly Bateson, Lily Kingman, Grace Pougher, Keila Allen, Georgia Mais, Amy Purdon, Katy Clark.
