The Year 7 Rugby Girls won the Hull Schools Tournament after beating Archbishop Sentamu and Sirius Academy North to top the group and see them go through to the Yorkshire Stages of the competition.
In their first ever tournament you could see that the girls had worked extremely hard in training as they put their attack and defence into practice.
Sirius Academy West 8 Archbishop Sentamu 4
Sirius Academy West started the first game of the tournament with two quick tries from captain Jasmine Fielder, who was looking good at acting half back and causing Archibishop Sentamu problems with her quick scoots. Archbishop went over for a try to make it 2 – 1. Enola Aitcheson and Jasmine Fielder extended the score to 4 – 1 before the halftime break. Archie came back strong in the second half with a good try before Enola Aitcheson went over for two more tries and also Megan Britton went over in the corner. Archbishop scored again but it was Mariah Palmer who rounded off the scoring and an 8 – 4 victory.
Sirius Academy West 8 Sirius Academy North 4
In the Sirius derby it was West that came out on top, but North started the game more brightly as they went over for an early try. But West replied shortly after with two tries of their own, one from Jasmin Fielder and one from Megan Britton. North equalised but then West went over for three tries in quick succession from Holly Paige, Amber Leake and Paige Walker, North finished the half strongly to make it 5 – 3 at the break. North scored first in the second half to put some panic in the West side, but they composed their nerves as the impressive Enola Aitcheson scored two good individual tries, North went over again but Enola Aitcheson secured the victory in the late stages as she rounded off a fine team performance with another 8 – 4 win.
Special thanks to Miss Shaw and Georgia Travagli (Year 13) for their help with the team last night.
Please congratulate the girls on their outstanding achievement in their first competitive rugby tournament.
