Year 7 Rugby boys put in superb effort in 1st ever Final!
The Sirius Academy Year 7 Rugby team put in a brave display but unfortunately came up against a very skilled and quick Malet Lambert team. The Malet team who have lost just one game this season in the National Cup after successfully winning the Yorkshire Cup, gave the Sirius boys a great lesson in attacking Rugby, which gave the team some valuable lessons that will be learnt and no doubt we will improve for the experience. The boys have had a successful 1st year at Sirius, winning the West Hull Schools League and making the Hull and East Riding Cup Final.
The Malet team started the game in superb fashion, scoring four quick tries to take a 24-0 lead in the opening fifteen minutes. Credit to the Sirius boys who fought back bravely with Sam McAuley, Joe Grant and Lewis Walker working hard to defend well with Ali Alsherife, Leon Stewart and Tom Wilkinson taking the ball up strongly. Stewart crossed for a deserved try, showing his strength and speed to crash through with Wilkinson goaling, however on the stroke of half-time Malet scored for a 30-6 lead.
The 2nd half targets were clear, with an increased enthusiasm paying dividends for Sirius with the elusive Harry Blackham breaking from near his own line and sprinting the length before he was caught just near the try-line. Malet responded with two quick tries before Stewart broke through again for his 2nd try however similar to the 1st half Malet finished with a try of their own to take the score-line to 48-12, with the Sirius boys learning plenty of lessons from a strong opposition.
Please congratulate the following boys on their success so far, attitude and behaviour:
Harry Blackham, Nat Walshaw, Leon Dalee, Connor Foster, Kristian McMahon, Lewis Wilson, Sam Smith, Ali Alsherife, Sam McAuley, Lewis Walker, Tom Wilkinson, Leon Stewart, Joe Grant, Kieran Simpson, Aidan Staves, Alex Dunne, Luke Taylor, Harrison Gibson, Charlie Jones.
