Year 7 Rugby League team suffer 1st defeat!

[02 Dec 2013]

The Sirius Academy Year 7 Rugby League team tasted defeat for the very first time as a team as they came up short against Rastrick High (Calderdale). The team struggled in the early stages to contain the quick Rastrick players and when we did manage to gain some possession we unfortunately made too many uncharacteristic errors. The team now look forward to their Hull Schools Cup campaign which will begin in the Spring.

Sirius started the match on the back foot with Rastrick driving the ball strongly forward. Jack Wilson-Grey, Joe Aitcheson and Kye Green defended strongly however Rastrick crashed over for two quick tries to take an 8-0 lead. With very little possession Sirius continued to defend for long spells with Ryan Coult, Taylor Eastwood and Dylan Booth making several tackles each. Again through sheer weight of possession Rastrick crossed a further two times to take an 18-0 lead into half-time.

With instructions to relax and enjoy the game, the Sirius boys began to play the Rugby that they are capable of. Will Beaumont, Booth and Jack Hassard moved the ball around well with Jack Webb distributing with skill. Lennon Milner, Eastwood and Joe Michael Laden made good yards and it was Laden who crossed first for Sirius to pull the score back to 18-4. Rastrick crossed quickly again however Hassard dummied his way over with Milner converting for 24-10. Despite late pressure Sirius could not find any more points with the score-line remaining the same.

Special thanks to Rachel Gay for her assistance with the team and Cosi Basile for driving the boys down to the venue.

Please congratulate the following boys on their performances, attitude and behaviour:

Jack Hassard, Billy Gill, Tom Borman, Joe-Michael Laden, Taylor Eastwood, Jackson Davis-Barker, Dylan Booth, Will Beaumont, Jack Wilson-Grey, Jack Webb, Joe Aitcheson, Kye Green, Harry Kynman, Ryan Coult, Ben Canvess, Lennon Milner.
