Year 7 Rugby team crowned West Hull champions!

[22 Mar 2012]

The Sirius Academy Year 7 Rugby team were tonight crowned West Hull Schools Champions after two victories in the qualifying competition. The boys produced two solid performances with several players standing out in two good team efforts. The boys now look forward to the Hull Schools Final which will be played against St Marys College, at the KC Stadium with a date to be announced.

The 1st game saw Sirius up against a Wolferton side that contained some big players, but Sirius defended strongly for large parts of the game to keep them at bay. With George Tyson-Wilson and Josh Lomax making good yards, Harry Whittles sent Brad Elliot sprinting away from the half-way to put Sirius 4-0 up. Sirius began to throw the ball around the good hands from Tyson-Wilson, Joseph Coates and Callum Whilsher sent Liam Waudby over in the corner for an 8-0 lead. Back came Wolferton who added two quick fire tries through the two big players to take a 12-8 lead. However Sirius refused to panic, and with Josh Kirby impressing at dummy-half, this created space for Coates to dummy his way over to pull Sirius back level at 12-12. With Sirius still looking the better team, space was created for the impressive Jay Kirkland to dive over and with a Kai Thorpe goal, Sirius won 18-12.

The 2nd game saw Sirius face Trinity House. Again Sirius scored some excellent tries, but more importantly defended strongly. Again Elliot was sent away by Whittles and claimed the first try for a 4-0 lead. With Jordan Webb and Josh Atkinson impressing with making yards, and Kieran Sewell providing good service, Sirius were in control, and this allowed Tyson-Wilson to dummy his way over to put Sirius 8-0 up. With little time remaining, a strong Jacob Smith drive created time for Whittles to dummy and then send the strong-running Joseph Thompson over and with a Whittles goal, Sirius had won 14-0.

Special thanks to Janice Hall for driving the mini-bus and supporting the boys and to Rachel Gay for her assistance with the team.

Please congratulate the following boys on their success, attitude and behaviour:

Jordan Webb, Callum Whilsher, Josh Atkinson, Harry Whittles, Joseph Coates, Kai Thorpe, Josh Kirby, Brad Elliot, Josh Lomax, George Tyson-Wilson, Jay Kirkland, Kieran Sewell, Rowan Foster, Joseph Thompson, Jacob Smith, Ben Macklin, Lloyd Cass, Liam Waudby.
