Year 7 Sirius Academy West Boys through to Hull Schools Plate Final
The Year 7 Boys bounced back from their recent cup upset with a convincing win over Wolfreton in the Plate semi final. The game started a little scrappy with both sides taking up early loose carries and turning over the ball on a couple of occasions, but once Sirius had got into their stride they found themselves scoring tries with ease. The first try saw Malachi Tony show real strength to break through a number of tackles before offloading to the supporting Bailey Jennison who went over under the sticks for Sam Hassard to convert. Jack Moore was seeing a lot of the ball out wide and when his good run drew in the defence his smart pass to Sam Hassard sent him over, Lennie Ellis slotted over for two more points to make it 12 – 0. Lennie Ellis was next over the tryline with a fine solo try as he ran across the line and sold a couple of dummies before stepping through the gap and accelerating to score under the sticks, Sam Hassard converted. Sirius were looking dangerous every time they were on the attack and the next try was a real team effort as good hands down the line involving smart work from halfback Will Furmage put Bailey Jennison away out wide who rounded the defence to go over, Jack Silvester converted. The final try of the first half saw two superb carries and quick play the ball from the two prop forwards which dragged in the Wolfreton defence leaving space for Malachai Tony to exploit, Lennie Ellis convert the try to make it 30 – 0 at half time.
Wolfreton started the second half well and captilised on some poor online defence from the Sirius side to make it 30 – 6, but it wasn’t long before Sirius were back on the scoresheet. A kick on the last tackle from the Wolfreton side was picked up by Bailey Jennison in broken play and he was smart enough to hit the gaps and race over 80 meters for a superb individual try, Sam Hassard converted. Sirius were made to work hard in defence for the remainder of the game, and they were up for the challenge, ensuring their scrambling online defence improved. Sirius had the final word, Sam Hassard was smart from acting half back near the Wolfreton tryline and put Jack Sylvester into a gap, his footwork and agility was superb as he stepped his way through the defensive line for a score under the sticks, he converted his own try to make the final score 42 – 6 to Sirius Academy West. The boys are now through to the final of the Hull Schools Plate where they will play either Malet Lambert or Sirius Academy North next Thursday at Hull KRs ground.
