Year 7s fight through 2 games in 2 days unbeaten!
Due to the regular heavy fixture build up around this time of the year due to poor lighting and conditions of the year 7 football pitch, the year 7 football team were faced with the challenge of two games in two days!
Day 1 for Sirius Academy: Sirius 9-2 Andrew Marvell (Hull cup)
The last game the team faced was Andrew Marvell and they came out 8-1 winners, so this should have been a game were the team will be full of confidence. However due to several players missing the game didn’t start to plan! In the early stages of the game Andrew Marvell took advantage of the shuffled pack in defence and bounced on the ball in the box to take the lead. Luckily the Sirius team remained composed and focused on the task in hand in their Hull cup debut and pulled the scores level 2 minutes later through an excellent finish by Bailey Jennison who cut inside the area and finished in the top corner with his weaker foot! The first half continued with both teams sloppy in possession up until a master stroke by Callum Hawkings from outside the area right into the underside of the net to make it 2-1 Sirius! However, once again some poor defending allowed Andrew Marevell to pull level before the HT whistle!
Following a HT Fergie team talk and a double substitution for debutees Will Furmage and Ronnie Naser saw the Sirius team come out all guns blazing. After only 1 minute into the half Callum Hawkings doubled his tally after running through the Marvell defence and rounded off his run with an excellent finish past the stranded keeper. Callum was involved again only minutes later playing a perfectly timed pass down the right channel for Lewis Wilkin to latch onto the end of and fire into the corner to make it 4-2! The goals didn’t stop there though…. From a corner the smallest man on the pitch Ronnie Naser managed to win the ball in the air to knock onto the Marvell defender with an O.G (although Ronnie wheeled away claiming the goal! Callum Hawkings completed his 18 minute hat trick by again winding through the defence to slot the ball into the corner of the goal.
Still celebrating the O.G Ronnie Naser finally got a goal of his own bouncing on the loose ball following a cross by Bailey Jennison. Callum, determined to be top goal scorer continued his fine goal scoring form by scoring 2 more goals in the space of a couple of minutes! Full of confidence he fired two excellent shots from the edge of the area past the Marvell keeper, who had no chance of stopping them!! The whistle blew at 9-2 with The Sirius team progressing into the Semi final!
Day 12 for Sirius Academy: Sirius 1-1 Malet Lambert (league)
Following their emphatic 9-2 win the previous day the Sirius team faced a much more challenging opposition of old cross-city rivals Malet Lambert in the league. Changes were made with the return of Jack Slyvestre and Mason Chaffer for the absent Bailey Jennison, Alfie Cater-Minns and Lewis Wilkin, which left the team low on substitutes! The game started with Malet creating most of the better chances, with some shots scraping past the post and others forcing fantastic saves out of Ethan Appleby, who is proving to be the best Sirius keeper I have ever seen (apart from myself). With the game edging closer to HT with both teams looking likely to score it was Mason Chaffer who broke the deadlock with a screamer into the top right corner from the edge of the area! Following his strike the team went into HT with a 1-0 lead.
At HT Ronnie was brought on again hoping to extend the lead in the second half. The second half started as tight and evenly matched as the first with both teams looking close to scoring if not for some fine keeping on both ends of the pitch! If Jack Slyvestre could learn about offside then we may have had a chance to extend the lead and win the game! However, Malet broke down the pitch with a swift attack and managed to slide the ball in the far corner of the goal, Ethan couldn’t have stopped this unfortunately. With moments to spare Jack again managed to break the offside trap and looked certain to score 1-1 with the keeper. However amazingly the referee thought he was offide!?!?!?!? The game then ended at 1-1 with Sirius sat 2nd in the league unbeaten and awaiting a league decider on Tuesday.
Special thanks to all the support from staff for their support on wednesday at home and special thanks to our new SKIT trainee who was being scrutinised as a ref by Mr Basile and did a great job. Also thanks to Mr Renier who supported the team last night also.
Please congratulate the team on their unbeaten league run and progressing into the semi-final
