Year 8 boys move into the Semi-Finals of Humberside Schools Cup!
The Year 8 Football team moved into the Semi-Finals of the Humberside County Cup after overcoming a tricky away tie against Cleethorpes Academy. With several of the boys backing up from the previous evenings Hull Schools 5 a-side competition, they again produced a performance that suited the conditions and opposition. The team are now within one match of reaching the prestigious Final, with the opponents yet to be confirmed.
The boys started the match slowly ,with Ewan Malton working hard, and Will Murphy pressuring up-front. With no clear cut chances coming, the boys stuck to their Football, marshalled well by the back four of Jordan Wardell, Jordan Littlefair, Robbie Hird and Callum Magee. It took a special effort from Chris Brown to break the deadlock, with a 30 metre strike that found the bottom corner. Another outstanding effort quickly followed by Luke Salas who teed the ball up and volleyed in from the edge of the area to give Sirius a 2-0 lead at half-time.
The 2nd half began with Oliver Russell causing problems up front, narrowly missing with two efforts. Kieran Bartlett kept the score at 2-0 with a top-class save tipping a volley over the cross-bar. Sirius began to gain control of more possession and this led to Brown curling a superb shot over the goal-keeper before Salas broke through and drilled the ball home for a 4-0 victory.
Special thanks to Cosi Basile for supporting and assisting with the boys.
Please congratulate the following boys on their performances:
Kieran Bartlett, Jordan Wardell, Callum Magee, Robbie Hird, Jordan Littlefair, Ewan Malton, Luke Salas, Kenan Stephenson, Chris Brown, Joseph Wood, Will Murphy, Luke Collingwood, Tom Greenham, Oliver Russell.
