Year 8 boys reach County Semi-Finals and National stages once again!

The Sirius Academy Year 8 Rugby team reached their 2nd successive Yorkshire Cup Semi-Final and also once again qualified for the Carnegie Champion Schools National Cup stages. The team are hoping to go one better than last season when they lost out in the County Final, and will have to get past rivals St Marys College (Hull), a team we have never beaten to progress to this year’s Final.
The teams opponents in the Quarter-Final were Kettlethorpe High (Wakefield), and the Sirius boys produced an assured display to run out comfortable 42-4 winners. Sirius started well with George Tyson-Wilson leading from the front supported well by Josh Kirby and Jay Kirkland. First points were scored after a Kai Thorpe crossfield kick was collected by Kieran Sewell who scored out-wide. Thorpe showed great strength to crash over for the next two tries, with one conversion, after good link-up play from the impressive Harry Whittles and Callum Whilsher. The hard-running Brad Elliot was last over before half-time showing his speed to sprint away from his own half for a lead of 22-0.
Kettlethorpe refused to lie down, and using the hill scored first in the 2nd half. However Ryan Addinnall, Josh Lomax and Keane Stevenson battled hard to push Sirius back into the game with Tyson-Wilson scoring next followed by the try of the match from the outstanding Josh Atkinson who raced the length of the pitch to score for 32-4. Late tries from Elliott and deservedly Thorpes hat-trick left Sirius 42-4 winners.
Special thanks to Janice Hall for travelling and supporting the boys.
