Year 8 Football boys into National Cup 5th Round!
The Sirius Academy Year 8 Football boys battled through to the ESFA Playstation Schools Cup 5th Round after a tight victory over a tough Wolfreton side. The boys knew the game would be difficult after last seasons tight Humberside Cup Final win over the same opposition, and they were made to battle for every opportunity during the game. The boys are now into the last 64 teams in the National competition which started with over 600 teams nation-wide.
Sirius began the game very well with Harry Wallis dictating play in the centre, with Jack Mortimer using his size and physical attributes to out-muscle the Wolfreton midfield. Up-front Harry Fenton was playing off Mason Opie-Palmer, and the two showed great link-up play to create opportunities to involve Jack Eland and Jack Cutler in the wide areas. Opie-Palmer opened the scoring after a Mortimer cross-field pass saw Wallis, Cutler and Fenton link up to square the ball to Palmer who tucked it away for 1-0.
On came the pressure from Wolfreton with captain Tom Overton in his return from injury controlling the defence in the time he spent on the field. Hassan Alsherife continued his strong form with Carrington Walker and Ben Spencer calmly moving the ball forward with good awareness. Wolfreton did however find an equaliser after a great through ball split the defence and it was soon 1-1.
Oliver Walker entered the game and added a real steel to the defence, as well as proving an excellent outlet with the ball. Pacey Bradley, again came on to add energy to the wide areas, causing problems for the tiring defenders.
Both teams tried but no break-through could be found after normal time and extra-time so it was penalties to decide the tie.
Wallis stepped up 1st and smashed the ball home, before George Petty pulled off a tremendous stop, low to his left. Up next was Fenton who again drilled the ball home for 2-0 and it stayed that way as Petty topped his 1st save with an unbelievable stop to tip the ball onto the post. Overton who had come back on stroked the ball home for 3-0 and the Sirius boys celebrated after the last Wolfreton player clipped the cross-bar with his effort! A fantastic game between two excellent sides!
Special thanks to Cosi Basile and Jon White for their support and driving the bus for the lads!
Please congratulate the following boys on their success, attitude and behaviour:
George Petty, Ben Spencer, Tom Overton, Hassan Alsherife, Carrington Walker, Jack Mortimer, Harry Wallis, Jack Eland, Jack Cutler, Harry Fenton, Mason Opie-Palmer, Oliver Walker and Pacey Bradley.
