Year 8 Football, Malet Lambert 3 – Sirius Academy 2
The Year 8 Football team crashed out of the Hull Schools Cup Quarter Final despite a gutsy performance away at Malet Lambert.
The boys trailed one-nil at the interval after a goal from the Malet Lambert No.11. The 7 Foot giant ran the length of the pitch to fire past James Constable in goal. Sirius’ best chance of a lively first-half fell to debutant, Nuno Vieira, who failed to trouble the goalkeeper when well placed.
Depsite their enthusiasm and endeavour, the boys conceded two early goals in the second-half when the aggressive running of the No.11 led to a goal for the No.7 and forced an own-goal by the unfortunate Corey Mitchell, who sliced past his own goalkeeper.
The boys reacted superbly and began to cause the Malet Lambert defenders problems. Outstanding performances by James Garrod and Connor Giddings in defence enabled Sirius to dominate the half. The hard working Matthew Meakin and the direct passing of Mitchell Levi-Lewis resulted in numerous chances that were spurned.
With 10mins to go Vieira chased a through-ball from Levi-Lewis and slotted past the goalkeeper to provide some hope. 5mins later Ryan Holden then pounced to finish cooly and create a tense final few minutes.
Depsite constant pressure and occupying the Malet-Lambert half for the remaining minutes the goal that would have forced extra-time proved elusive.
