Year 8 Football team lose out in 5-a side Final!

[10 Jan 2012]

The Year 8 team somehow lost in the Final of the Hull Schools 5 a-side competition at the Gemtec Arena. The boys were exceptional throughout, easily winning their group before losing the Final against Malet Lambert, a team they had already beaten 3-0 in the group stages.

The boys played 4 group matches with all of them producing excellent performances. 1st up was Trinity House, and a Luke Salas goal earned a 1-0 win, before St Marys held Sirius to a 2-2 draw, with Salas and Callum Magee scoring. Sirius then began to find their feet and played some excellent football in beating defending Champions Malet Lambert 3-0, with Salas (2) and Kenan Stephenson scoring, before beating Winifred Holtby 2-0 with Salas again netting twice.

The Semi-Final saw Archbishop Sentamu fall to Sirius by 3-0, with Salas (2) and Stephenson scoring the goals. With Sirius playing well, they went confidently into the Final and took a 1-0 lead through Salas, before losing 2 late goals to lose out 2-1.

Special mentions to Kieran Bartlett who was outstanding in goal, producing many top-class saves, and Salas who again showed his undoubted class.
