Year 8 Girls Rugby League

[21 Feb 2018]

The Year 8 Girls came third in the Hull Schools Tournament in a very evenly matched competition, where in most games only one or two tries were the difference.

Sirius were without four of their key players in Mia Cheesman, Lucy Parker, Leah Pearson and Louise Jessop, so it was always going to be a real struggle, but two of the impressive Year 7’s were brought in to take their place with Enola Aitchison and Jasmine Fielder playing up an age group.

Sirius Academy West 0 Malet Lambert 2

This game was very evenly matched, with both sides looking good in defence. Malet Lambert looked after the ball better that the Sirius side and when Sirius knocked on near their own tryline they could not stop the big strong Malet Lambert player from crashing over.  Sirius tried to get back into the game but as they started to panic more errors happened and again Malet capitalised on this by going over for their second try.

Sirius Academy West 4 Sirius Academy North 5

The Sirius derby at this age group is always a good one, and this was no different. The Sirius North side had improved a lot since last year and with some new additions in their side they managed to get a two try lead. The Sirius West side responded well though and Nicole George showed her speed and strength by levelling the scores after two quick tries. But the North side were too powerful and better with their ball handling skills as they scored two more well worked tries to make it 4 – 2, Nicole George went over for her hat-trick to make for a tense finish, North went over again to extend the lead to 5 – 3 before Nicole George went over on the final whistle to make it 5 – 4 in favour of Sirius North.

Sirius Academy West 6 Archbishop Sentamu 2

The Sirius Wets girls knew they hadn’t played to their full potential in the previous two games and were fired up to finish on a high, and they did just that, running in six tries to two with Chantelle Dunn and Nicole George getting over the tryline twice and a try each for Beth Waters and Jasmine Fielder in a much more convincing and energetic performance.

Please congratulate the squad on finishing 3rd in this competition:-

Nicole George, Talia Martinez, Louise Smith, Jasmine Fielder, Enola Aitchison, Jess Wood, Tegan Purdon, Beth Waters, Lilly Sheperdson, Ellie Davidson, Chantelle Dunn, Lucy Stewart

Special thanks to Miss Williams for her support with the team.
