Year 8 Hull Schools 5-A-Side Champions!!

Breaking news in Sirius as the year 8 boys are crowned Hull Schools 5-a-side Champions!
The tournament started on a negative with the team being 1 player shorter than planned which meant the remaining 6 would have to put in the extra effort in a fast pace schedule. The team where drawn with a difficult group along with Kelvin, Malet Lambert and Endeavour. Beating Kelvin 2-1 and losing to Malet 2-1 (although through a dubious referee decision), left Sirius needing to win their final game with at least a 3 goal margin! After a couple of nervy minutes and great keeping Sirius managed to break through to a 5-0 win (which included a Jack Tanser hat-trick) and ended the group in 1st. An excellent group performance even led to Bayer Baper being scouted by teams!
In the semi-final the team faced a tough St Mary’s team, and straight after their group success the team were flowing with confidence. The game ended 3-1 following a final few nervy minutes and excellent keeping again by Joseph Hill. With the team watching the other semi-final closely they witnessed Kelvin win to set up a replay of the 1st game. A longer game of two 7 minute halves, the team had to dig deep to find more energy in what would be a close fought out game. The half ended at 1-0 (although the ref said it was 2) to Sirius, through a goal by Jay Mainprize. The second half proved to be more challenging with Kelvin pushing on to equalise. However, Jay Mainprize took his form from the first half to score the second of the game and complete the tournament victory at 2-0! Special credit goes to the Sirius defence who were without any original defenders, but Harry Pougher stepped up to control the game at the back.
Can you please congratulate the lads on excellent performances throughout. Joseph Hill, Jay Mainprize, Jack Tanser, Steven Willits, Harry Pougher and Bayer Baper.
Credit also goes to Daniel Rouse for the management and Alex Sherwood for the smooth running of the tournament.
