Year 8 move into Yorkshire Quarter-Finals!

[01 Feb 2013]

The Sirius Academy Year 8 Rugby team moved into the Yorkshire Cup Quarter-Finals with a comfortable 28-10 success over St John Fisher (Kirklees) in windy conditions. The team controlled the ball well, and scored some excellent tries but more impressively defended very well to limit the opposition to two opportunist tries. The team now look forward to a Quarter-Final against Kettlethorpe High (Wakefield).

The game started well for Sirius with a Kai Thorpe kick off blowing back in the wind to give them possession. From the resulting set of tackles the impressive Ryan Addinnall scored wide out for a 4-0 lead. With forwards Tom Jordan and Josh Lomax making strong yards, supported well by Jay Kirkland and Addinnall Sirius continued to push forward. Brad Elliott was next over, using his pace and power to race away from 40 metres out for 8-0, however Fisher bounced back to bring the score back to 8-6. Full-back Josh Atkinson was having an excellent match, making countless yards forward, with Brett Dorley and Kieran Sewell defending well out-wide. Atkinson was next over with Harry Whittles and Callum Whilsher combining well to create space for a 12-6 half-time lead.

The 2nd half began with Sirius on the front foot, with Elliott storming over for 16-6. Year 7 Keane Stevenson carried the ball strongly making good yards, with Lewis Hewitt and Josh Kirby distributing well in difficult conditions. Dorley was next over sprinting over from 20 metres out, before Elliott completed his deserved hat-trick with Whittles and Thorpe adding another goal each.

Special thanks to Rachel Gay for her assistance with the team.
