Year 8 Rugby League team move into Yorkshire Cup Round 2!
The Sirius Academy Year 8 Rugby League team moved safely into the 2nd Round of the Champion Schools Yorkshire Cup with an accomplished victory over Temple Moor (Leeds). The team scored some well-structured tries and defended their own try-line well in spells. The team now face Ossett (Wakefield) for a place in the Quarter-Finals.
Sirius started the game quickly with Jack Arnett getting around the outside of the Moor defence for a quick try with Mikey Lewis adding the extras for a 6-0 lead. Moor battled back and put the Sirius line under pressure with Luke Moss, Kieran Bartlett and Reece Gooch defending strongly. Quick hands from Connor Matthews and Lewis created space for Jack Scottow to race away for a 10-0 lead. Forwards Declan Jackson, Matty Wilson, Arnett and Harrison Longden led the attack forward with Callum Riley out wide taking some excellent catches. Tyler Hackett was next over from short range before Wilson crashed over again from close in with Scottow adding the goal for a 20-0 half-time lead.
The 2nd half was more of a close contest with Moor running strongly. Year 7 student Jack Hassard switched to full-back and caught and returned the ball with great skill. Jordan Worner was 1st over showing neat footwork to step through before a Moss kick was grounded by Joseph Sedman for a 28-0 lead. Lewis Harold, Charlie Holness and Ronan McMahon came on to continue the good work from Sirius but the score-line remained the same.
Special thanks to Rachel Gay for her support with the team and Cosi Basile for dropping the team off.
