Year 8 Rugby team head towards Yorkshire Cup!

The Sirius Academy Year 8 Rugby League team continued the Academy’s positive start to the Rugby season by returning from Longcroft undefeated in the first two matches of the Hull Schools League. Again the matches act as qualifying for the Carnegie Champions Schools Yorkshire Cup.
The first opponents for the boys were last seasons Yorkshire Cup Semi-Finalists, Wolferton. From the beginning the Sirius team started strongly with Jon Mills, James Ducker and Chris Brown driving the ball in strongly, gaining good metres. However it was Luke Salas who caught the eye throughout the evening, taking the Man of the Night award for Sirius. Salas opened the scoring, using his speed and strength to cross after good work from Kenan Stephenson and Brad McLaughlin, Stephenson adding the extras. Salas added to his total with a 2nd try for a 10-0 Sirius lead, however Wolferton fought back with a try for 10-4. Salas had the final word, crossing outwide to give Sirius a 14-6 victory.
The second match saw the Sirius team up against a very big Longcroft team. Sirius played smartly, using the width of the pitch and the speed of Joseph Wood, Jordan Wardell and Kieran Bartlett to create opportunities. Special mention to Sam Wilde for an excellent performance, gaining hard metres in numerous big runs. Again Salas proved to be on the end of much of the good work, combining well with Stephenson and the impressive Brown. Brown was first to score off a Salas break, before Salas added a hat-trick of tries with Stephenson adding all four goals for a 24-0 lead. Longcroft fought back with two late tries to give Sirius a 24-8 win.
