Year 8 Sirius West Girls crowned Hull Schools Rugby League Champions

[20 Jun 2016]

The Year 8 Girls Hull Schools Rugby League Competition was help on Friday night at St Marys College and I am delighted to announce that Sirius Academy West came out as champions, with Sirius North finishing close second.

Sirius Academy West 8 St Marys “B” 0
Sirius started the tournament in fine form with an outstanding 8 – 0 victory. From the tap start it was Beth Dixon who ran through with strength and pace for an early try. Year 7 Georgia Coggin was next on the scoresheet showing great footwork and after that it was none stop tries for the impressive Sirius West team, with Cody Bramham, Tilly Lee, Kalisha Quantock all crossing over. Defensively there was no way through for the St Marys side as everyone played their part in ensuring they kept a clean sheet. Cody Bramham, Beth Dixon and Kalisha Quantock all went over for their second try of the game before the final whistle went.

Sirius Academy West 5 St Marys “A” 3
The St Marys “A” team proved to be a lot stronger in a closer match. Beth Dixon had picked up a slight knock so was moved out to the wing, which meant no real height in the middle of the field as the big St Marys side looked to cause Sirius problems when they attacked. Sirius did go over first with Milly Jordan showing great vision and speed to scoot through a gap and outpace the defence. Lydia Walker was making great yards forward and making some good tackles in defence. Year 7 Lucy Sainty doubled the lead in a fine team try, but St Marys got a couple of tries back to set up for a tense finish. Cody Bramham put Sirius back in the lead before Milly Jordan went over for her second try of the game. St Marys got another one back but Beth Dixon sealed the game with a try in the corner.

Sirius Academy West 8 Sirius Academy North 6
Both Sirius sides had won their two previous games, so the winner of this game would be crowned the champions of Hull. Sirius West controlled the ball better in the early stages as Cody Bramham went over for an early try, Georgia Coggin was looking very impressive as she took on the line on a number of occasions and scored two tries in quick succession. Sirius North got back into the game with two good tries of their own before Rachel Fox got over for her first try of the competition. Both defences were getting tired as the attacking side were breaking through easily. With the score at 4 – 3 it was all to play for. Mille Jordan once again showed her skill and went over for two outstanding tries of her own. The North team really came back well though and levelled the scores at 6 – 6 with a few minutes remaining. Georgia Coggin was determined to be on the winning side and scored two tries late on showing real individual class for Sirius West to be crowned the Champions of Hull.

The girls celebrated when the final whistle went as they knew that the final game could have gone either way, with both teams looking strong in attack it was whichever team controlled the ball the best and it was Sirius West that managed to do that.

Please congratulate the girls on their success, attitude and behaviour:-
Rachel Fox, Milly Jordan, Beth Dixon, Cody Braham, Lydia Walker, Tilly Lee, Kalisha Quantock, Georgia Coggin (Year 7), Lucy Sainty (Year 7)

Special thanks to Miss Williams for her continued support with the girls rugby.
