Year 9 Boys crash out in Semi Final of the Sky Try 9’s RL Competition

[18 Jul 2018]

The Year 9 Boys unfortunately crashed out in the semi final to Winifred Holtby in the Rugby League 9 a-side SKY Try Competition at KCOM Craven Park last night. The boys had been coached for 4 consecutive Wednesdays after school by ex Sirius Academy West student, and Hull FC first team player Jansen Turget, along with Hull Born FC player Brad Fash.

Sirius Academy West were drawn in a tough league with Kelvin Hall and Wolfreton and needed to finish in the top two to enable them to get into the semi final.

Sirius Academy West 4 Kelvin Hall 3
Sirius started the competition in fine form with a well earned victory over Kelvin Hall, tries came from Harry Norton, Keiran Welburn (2) and Alfie Marsden.

Sirius Academy West 3 Wolfreton 4
This game could have either way, but Wolfreton had some very strong, fast players. The defence of the Sirius team was not at its best as they leaked in four tries, but some great attack play saw them go over three times with from Alfie Marsden, Wesley Holmes and Keiran Welburn

Sirius Academy West 5 Kelvin Hall 2
Sirius were starting to play some fantastic rugby and scored some outstanding tries in this game with some well worked team tries from Keiran Welburn, Wesley Holmes, James Abdull, Mason Palmer and Spencer Bennett. The Sirius defence was looking a lot more organised and aggressive too as they kept Kelvin to only 2 tries in a convincing win.

Sirius Academy West 1 Wolfreton 3
This game decided who would finish top of the group, and it was a class display from the Wolfreton side, who broke through on three occasions to go over. Sirius managed to get a consolation try through Harry Norton, but it was too little too late, as Sirius were to now play the first ranked team from the other group, which was Winifred Holtby.

SEMI FINAL

Winifred Holtby 5 Sirius Academy West 2
A strong Winifred Holtby side set their stalls in this game nice and early with two quick tries. A fine individual try from Mason Plamer saw Sirius come back in the game at 2 – 1. But Winifred went on to score three more tries and put the game out of reach. Credit to the much improved Sirius Year 9 boys side as they did not give up and went over for the final try of the game through a strong run from Harry Norton.

Please congratulate the boys on their performance, attitude and behaviour if you see them around the Academy:-

Keiran Welburn, Spencer Bennett, Robbie Jones, Macauley Medlam (Year 8), James Abdull, Mason Palmer, Harry Norton, Leo Meiklenham, Alfie Marsden, Wesley Holmes, Deepanshu Nath (debut)
