Year 9 boys reach Yorkshire Plate Final!
The Sirius Academy Year 9 boys reached the Carnegie Champion Schools Yorkshire Plate Final after a victory over Brigshaw High (Wakefield). The team have now earned the opportunity to play at Wakefield Wildcats stadium on Wednesday along with our successful Year 9 girls team who are also in the Yorkshire Final. The team played well despite the match been cut short due to an injury to an opposition player. The team now play John Smeaton Academy (Leeds) in the Final.
The match started well for the Sirius with Rhys Purchon, Keane Stevenson and Declan Jackson making good yards forward. As ever Luke Moss was reliable at the back, taking several challenging kicks with Reece Gooch and Jack Scottow causing problems with their pace wide out. Purchon crashed over after a delayed pass from Mikey Lewis before Lewis again combined with Connor Matthews and Kieran Bartlett to create space for Scottow to speed over wide-out for 8-0. On the stroke of half-time, a Brigshaw player unfortunately dislocated his kneecap which saw proceedings come to a halt and due to the wait for the ambulance and the opposition players requiring transport home, the match was called off with the score standing. Special thanks to Rachel Gay for her assistance in coaching the team. Please congratulate the following boys on their success, attitude and behaviour: Luke Moss, Jordan Wornor, Callum Riley, Reece Gooch, Tyler Hackett, Mikey Lewis, Connor Matthews, Declan Jackson, Matty Wilson, Kieran Bartlett, Jack Arnett, Harrison Longden, Jack Hassard (Year 8), Rhys Purchon, Joseph Sedman, Jack Scottow, Keane Stevenson.
