Year 9 Boys Rugby: Sirius Academy West 44 South Holderness 6
The Year 9 Boys won their fourth match in four week to win the Championship Hull Schools League when they convincingly beat South Holderness 44 – 6.
The South Holderness team started with the ball and made some good yards forward but the teamwork in defence from the Sirius West side was exceptional. On the turnover Jack Mortimer showed his pace and strength with an 80 yard try to go in under the sticks, converted by Kieran Welburn. Dylan Norrie went over shortly after when he spotted a gap in the South Holderness defence 12 – 0. Captain Kieran Welburn burst over for his first try of the game before Jack Mortimer once again scored a full length try from a set play from the scrum. The last play of the half was a superb kick from Dylan Norrie that was followed up by Kieran Welburn to score next to the sticks, halftime score 28 – 0.
The new look wing centre combinations of Kai Shaw / Spencer Bennett and Renaldas Sokolovas / Alfie Sumpton were looking good in attack and defence as the game progressed. But it was South Holderness who went over for the first try of the second half. But the comeback was short lived as Kieran Welburn kicked forward a loose ball and pounced on the bouncing ball to make the score 32 – 6. Tom Mclellan was making some excellent decisions from acting half back and he was the creator of the next try as his quick scoot sent the markers the wrong as he put in Ronaldas Sokolovas who went through like a steam team to crash over. Forwards Harry Norton and Wesley Holmes had ran hard and strong all afternoon and on the back of some good carries from the prop forwards it was Kieran Welburn who went over out wide when some great passing down the line on the last tackle resulted in probably the best team try of the game. Final score 44 – 6.
Please congratulate the boys on their continued outstanding performances which has seen themconvincingly beat all four teams that they have come up against:-
