Year 9 Girls finish 3rd in Yorkshire Qualifiers
Sirius Academy West 9 Archibishop Sentamu 1
Sirius Academy started their first game by conceding an early try against Archbishop Sentamu, but from then on in it was all Sirius West as they scored off nearly every set of six in attack. Three tries in quick succession for the impressive Beth Dixon who showed real strength and determination to put Sirius 3 – 1 up. The introduction of Tilly Lee was a major factor in defence as she made several outstanding tackles on the Archbishop forwards. Smart play from Levis Lewis at dummy half extended the scoreline before Kalisha Quantock and Milly Jordan got on the scoresheet. Beth Dixon, Cody Brown and Tilly Lee rounded off the scoring in a convincing 9 -1 victory in the first game for Sirius West.
Sirius Academy West 4 St Marys 5
With injuries to a few key players for this game the tempo and determination from the Sirius West side lacked from the off. St Marys had some big strong girls who were running hard and fast through the line as they got a well-deserved opening try. Cody Brown equalised with a powerful run, but it was St Marys who looked the more dangerous in attack and powered over for two more tries. Debutant Aaliyah Johnson was starting to understand the game more and become more confident taking the ball in and got a well-deserved individual try of her own to make it 3 – 2. The next try was crucial and it was St Marys who extended their lead further with two more tries as the defence of the Sirius side was all over the place. Beth Dixon came on the field of play with a few minutes remaining and made a big impact with two late tries, but it was too little too late for the West side.
Sirius Academy West 3 Sirius Academy North 6
Sirius West knew they needed to beat North if they had any chance of getting through to the Yorkshire Finals, but North was looking good as they came into this game on the back of 2 wins. The game was evenly matched in the early stages but it was North that opened the scoring, a great response from Cody Brown to equalise shortly after. North went over again, but so did West, with Cody again proving too strong near the tryline. North took the lead again, but Beth Dixon replied immediately as the scoreline was 3 – 3 with a few minutes remaining. North looked the more determined to get the victory and gave everything to ensure they made it 3 wins from 3, scoring some late tries to end the score at 6 tries to 3 in favour of North.
Unfortunately this meant that Sirius West would finish third in this competition, which is a lesson learnt from the Year 9 side as very few of them committed to training last week, where-as North had nearly their full squad at training and got their rewards.
Please congratulate the Sirius West girls on their effort and behaviour, they were very gracious in defeat and wished Sirius North the best of luck in the Yorkshire Finals:-
