Year 9 Girls Rugby League: Outoowd Grange 0 Sirius Academy 13 (Tries)

[12 Feb 2015]

The Sirius Academy Year 9 Girls had their first Rugby League match since being crowned national champions back in August 2014. The girls started back up where they left off, in fine form, defeating Outwood Grange by 13 tries 0.

From the kick off Kayleigh Waller picked up the ball and burst through the would be tacklers for the first try of the game. Ellie Cone was next on the score sheet after some great passing down the line. Molly Bigby scored two tries in quick succession, showing great pace and vision to go through the gap. The Sirius defence was as solid as ever with Saffron Jones and Georgia Wardell putting in some great tackles. Sirius introduced three Year 8’s as the game progressed (Shannon Jordan, Amy Purdon and Danielle Waters), Shannon Jordan was immense in the middle of the park and made some great yards going forward. Sirius were really turning on the style and playing some very good rugby. Amelia Longden finished off a great Sirius move, with Kayleigh Waller also going over for her second, to leave the scoreline 6 tries to 0 at the break.

Ellie Cone was moved to the half back position and was proving to be very influential as the first receiver, putting players through some gaps with a good draw and pass. Bigby again showed good footwork to go over for her hat-trick. Kayleigh was unstoppable as she went over for another two tries. But although the attack was looking good, the defence got stronger too, with Outwood Grange not getting anywhere near the Sirius tryline. Mia Duke was distributing the ball well from acting half back, but also showed good support play and speed off the mark by scoring two tries of her own. Waller rounded off the scoring with two more tries, making her total 6 for the match.

The team performance today was exceptional, they looked well organised in defence and attack, coming out worthy winners. Next up for the National Champions is the Yorkshire Finals in March as they look to retain their title.

Special thanks to Mr Rouse who assisted with the team.
Please congratulate the squad on their fantastic performance and attitude:-
