Year 9 Girls Rugby Sky Try Champions
The Year 9 Sirius Academy West Girls Rugby team played their best rugby to date at the Hull KR Sky Try 9 a-side tournament that saw them win every game in the competition and be crowned Champions.
With Boulevard, Archbishop Sentamu and Sirius Academy North all taking part the girls knew there was some fierce competition in front of them, but was certainly up to the challenge.
Sirius Academy West 3 Sirius Academy North 1
First up was the Sirius derby, and as North came out on the top the last time the two teams met it was always going to be set for a close game. Sirius West got on top early with tries from Alyx Worth and Lucy Sainty before Sirius North got one back. Georgia Coggin showed her skill and speed late on to go over for the try that would seal the game.
Sirius Academy West 4 Archibishop Sentamu 0
Next up was a big strong Archbishop side, but the girls were full of confidence after the first game, and the size of their players did not phase them as they ran in four tries, scored by Alyx Worth, Georgia Coggin, Lucy Sainty and Nicole George. The defence to keep the Archbishop side out was exceptional, with Ellie Robertson, Rachel Robinson and Paige Collingwood leading the way!
Sirius Academy West 5 Boulevard Academy 2
In another tough game, Sirius came out worthy winners, playing some fantastic rugby with some great tries scored by Alyx Worth, Lucy Sainty (2), Chantelle Dunn and Georgia Coggin. The team were playing with so much energy and enthusiasm and knew that keeping this up in the second round of games could see them as champions.
Sirius Academy West 4 Sirius Academy North 0
The West girls were in fine form again in the second of the derby matches against the North side. The defence was outstanding to not concede a try in this match as the North girls threw everything at them. Tries scored for the Sirius West team were from Alyx Worth, Georgia Coggin and Chelsea Anderson (2).
Sirius Academy West 4 Archbishop Sentamu 1
Sirius West knew that if they won this one then they would win the competition, and they started the game with some exceptional defence on their own try line. In attack the girls were playing some superb rugby, with strong runs and smart offloads. Rachel Robinson was making all the right choices from acting half back and getting the girls organised. Alyx Worth once again went over for the first try before Georgia Coggin ran in two of her own. Archbishop got one back but Chantelle Dunn secured the victory with a great try in the corner.
Sirius Academy West 5 Boulevard Academy 0
Sirius West rounded off a perfect tournament performance by beating Boulevard Academy 5 – 0 and being unbeaten in the competition. Tries came from Georgia Coggin (2), Chantelle Dunn (2) and Nicole George.
Please congratulate the girls on their outstanding performance, effort and attitude. This is the third year I have had these girls for and they have never played with so much energy and enthusiasm. They full deserved to be crowned the Champions of the Sky Try competition and I am very proud of each and every one of them, it was a real team performance with everyone putting in 100%. I look forward to working with them in Year 10 as I am sure they can go on to achieve so much more!
