Year 9 record victory in Hull Schools League

[18 Sep 2013]

The Sirius Academy Year 9 Rugby team recorded their 1st victory in the Hull Schools League with a comprehensive 36-8 win over a much-improved Kelvin Hall team. The boys bounced back from last week’s defeat to give themselves a great chance of qualifying for the Champion Schools Yorkshire Cup.

The team settled well on the small Kelvin pitch with Harry Whittles and Year 8 student Mikey Lewis combining well to split the defence in the early stage. Good play from Whittles sent man of the match Josh Atkinson over for the 1st score, which was quickly followed by a Lewis try who collected a Whittles high-kick for an 8-0 lead. Kelvin struck back with two quick tries to level the score at 8-8, however Sirius then regained their composure and led by forward George Tyson-Wilson, Ryan Addinnall and Jay Kirkland, strong defence led to Kelvin errors. Kai Thorpe barged over before half-time with Whittles goaling for a 14-8 lead.

The 2nd half saw Sirius play with more structure and patience which in the end gave them reward. Joe Petty playing his 1st school game for two years showed great speed to open the scoring with Whittles adding for a 20-8 score. Thorpe was next over off a short pass from the impressive Kieran Sewell before Lewis grabbed his 2nd with a neat dummy for 30-8. Tyson-Wilson was last over again off a Sewell pass to give Sirius their victory.

Special thanks to Janice Hall for driving the mini-bus and her support.

Please congratulate the following boys on their success, attitude and behaviour:

Josh Atkinson, Rowan Foster, Stephen Pougher, Brett Dorley, Josh Lomax, Mikey Lewis (Year 8), Harry Whittles, Kai Thorpe, Tom Jordan, Kieran Sewell, Jay Kirkalnd, Ryan Addinnall, George-Tyson-Wilson, Joe Petty, Declan Jackson (Year 8).
