Year 9 Rugby team reach Hull Schools Final!

[01 May 2013]

The Sirius Academy Year 9 Rugby team made it through to the Hull Schools Final to be held at Hull KRs Craven Park. After winning the trophy last year, the boys did not have it all their own way and will face a tough Final against Andrew Marvell school. The team completed an excellent run for the Academy with the Year 7, 8, 9 and 11 teams all reaching their respective Finals.

The first match for the boys was against Marvell and a strong start led to Ray Brown going over with a Kenan Stephenson goal for 6-0. Marvell soon hit back for 6-6, before the impressive Lochlan Fitzgerald stepped through the defence for a 10-6 lead. Forwards Jon Mills and Tom Greenham made good yards forward with Matty Taylor defending well wide out. Stephenson was next over with Year 8 Kai Thorpe goaling for 16-6. However a string of penalties and mistakes led to Marvell scoring two late tries for a well fought 16-16 draw.

Sirius faced Malet Lambert next for a place in the Final. A strong start led to tries for Chris Brown, debutant Hayden Mortimer and a length of the field effort from Brad McLaughlin, two Stephenson goals had Sirius 16-0 up. Further tries from Stephenson and Fitzgerald (2), with three Stephenson goals gave Sirius a 34-0 victory and their Final spot.

Special thanks to Janice Hall for her support and driving the boys and to Cosi Basile for his support at the event.

Please congratulate the following boys on their success, attitude and behaviour:

Kenan Stephenson, Alan Britton, Brandon Eastwood, Hayden Mortimer, Matty Taylor, Brad McLaughlin, Lochlan Fitzgerald, Jon Mills, Alec Beaumont, Tom Greenham, James Ducker, Ray Brown, Chris Brown, Kai Thorpe (Year 8), Ewan Malton, Matty Burgess.
